The Coventry Carol is one of the oldest in the English language. The earliest text dates from 1534 and the melody from 1591. Traditionally, it was performed as part of the mystery plays and tells the Christmas story as related in Matthew, Chapter 2. Herod, fearful of a new born king, decrees that all boy children under the age of two should be put to death. The carol takes the form of a lullaby sung by the mothers to their little sons.

This Sunday, January 8th, our wonderfully talented musician, Jenni Driscoll-Holmes, will sing it as a solo during the 10:30 service.
